A fresh approach to cable analysis

Here’s an interesting idea that I wish someone would do. Start a YouTube channel in which you take full range of power cords, interconnects, and speaker wire ranging from cheap to top-of-the-line and carefully dissect them and expose how they are constructed and with what. In the past, we have been through all the arguments about measurements and subjective evaluation, and that gets us nowhere. I think, looking at the physical construction of these chords, which I assume almost no one ever does, especially on the more expensive ones, would produce some surprising results and really be hard to argue with. I’m sure manufacturers would hate this idea, but I don’t think there’s any way legally that they could challenge it.

Seeing that you came up with such a wonderful idea! May I suggest you start a GoFundMe page? I would happily donate a dollar to such a good cause.

I appreciate your support, but I have to admit that I am too lazy to put in the work that it would take to do this properly, which is why I’m willing to give the idea away here. To my mind, the ideal person would have at least some background in either material science or electrical engineering or related fields. There might be interesting testing that could be done with the proper equipment on the materials found inside the cables.

The topic of cables is very interesting!  There are already some very useful comparative reviews on YouTube.  In fact, what I have recently discovered is the fact that there are some very economical cables that compete well with so-called high level cables.  Of course, this is somewhat subjective based on the reviewer having his own opinion; however, the economical cables are so economical that they were not a financial stretch to try them.

In the review, the reviewer claimed the economical cable performed a bit better than his $800 namebrand cable and was only beaten by his $1300 namebrand cable.  While I do not have an $800 or $1300 pair of interconnects to compare against - I was curious enough to order a pair of the economical cables, and shortly thereafter, a second pair!  My take on them - two thumbs up!

Because of different equipment and value and performance of the equipment, cable impressions will sometimes be completely different between people. Also not everyone has the same critical listening skills or good enough hearing to even hear the differences. Way too many variables to believe what people say on the internet. Its always best to try for yourself in your own home and system! Peoples opinions are inconsistent and all over the map when it comes to cables IMHO!
