Out of curiosity, what is your "dream" speaker?
Mine are the MBL 101 X-Treme MKII.
the one that got away - how do you handle grief?
I just lost a bid for my dream speakers that I had been chasing for a decade. It was pretty stupid because I missed the last hour and maybe I would have won it with another $100. But maybe it's a sign, it's just a piece of hardware, that I should not be obsessed with. - "you can't always get what you want"
Did you always get the gear you thought would make you whole?

I think that you're asking the wrong question. The better question is, how do I get what I really want? 1-"There's a price for every trade" 2-"Bid to win not to miss" 3-"Cute little bids often lead to big opportunity loss" If something comes to market that you truly desire make sure that you set yourself up to show your best bid. If the market tops your best bid then it's not your trade and you did all you could. The mistake many people make is starting too low, too far away from your best bid. If another buyer comes in with a bid that meets the sellers goal you're at risk of the item trading away before you show your best bid. The grief will be minimal if the trade happens at a cost greater than your best bid. The real grief is not showing your best bid. |
very wise words, to be heeded by a child at heart. @mofimadness I swore I would not disclose the make and model, but why. Celestion SL600 Si. Queen of all Celestions. @rick_n you are spot on. The question is not how to place a bid in the last 5 seconds that's higher than the next one, but how to set and forget what I am willing to pay. It still stings when I am outbid by 2 dollars although the other buyer may have been willing to fight all the way to double my bid. The catch is though that I want my cake and eat it too: I want to win and want to pay as little as possible. Doesn't always work out...
