Have you ever auditioned some gear in a shop, bought it because you were thoroughly impressed, and felt it was a total letdown once you got it home?

Seriously how a component will interact with both your room and the rest of your system can be difficult to predict from hearing a piece in another setting. I haven’t bought nearly as many pieces since my bricks and mortar dealer, which would let me audition a piece for a weekend, went under. Returning internet purchases is such a hassle

The 3rd time was the charm- a pair of Magnepans. That was back in the 90’s. I had owned Magnepans for a decade after that.
