Tube Audio Design TAD150 Signature Preamplifier Servicing

I have one of Paul Gryzbek's TAD150 Signature preamplifier and am looking for a service tech that is familiar with this preamp or might even specialize in it.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have one too...on a shelf.  Works fine, sounds great, with one exception..the remote volume no longer responds. The remote works, but the the volume electronics doesn't receive the signal or can't act on it. I tried the same post you're trying here a year+ ago..no response. I had a local guy that does a lot of work on audio equipment and he said.."beyond me" and declined to dig into it.

It really is a fine sounding preamp. If I do use it now, I run it through a passive pre that has remote volume.

There has to be a tech/shop that can take it on. I use to go to a guy in N Virginia (Bill Thalmann at Music Technology) and he could repair and optimize anything.  Sadly he passed away a few years ago.  Much of his bus was shipped in to him.

I too have TAD150 and love it. I worry about when it will need service. @nogaps , have you tried a universal remote, or a repair service?

Audio Classics in upstate NY has a really good reputation. If they can't help, they'll probably recommend someone that can.

Nogaps, I would get an inexpensive universal remote and go through the code list one at a time. You might get lucky.

I've verified(I think) the remote works by using a cell phone camera to see the IR beam.  It beams, I can see it, but I get no response from the preamp volume knob.  So I have been assuming the problem is in the preamp volume electronics.

Am I missing something?  If a universal remote may work..I'm open.

I have a repair place a ways south of me in the Chicago area that supposedly can fix anything. While that's wishful thinking, I haven't checked with them yet. I was using the preamp up until six months ago and used a passive pre for volume control..though getting it fixed would be nice.
