@edubbers They've been in business for probably 10+ years now. All the dealers know they're legit at what service they provide. THATS what pisses them off. If it was not a legit threat nobody would be complaining about them.
Buying a Luxman L505z from Japan
Hey, so I’m looking to purchase a Luxman L505z from Japan - I will need a 120-100v step down transformer . I wanted to find out if anyone has experience with this and if it will compromise the sound in anyway? I saw one from a dealer on eBay with a 99% rating, but I’m unsure if I should trust it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated

A Luxman L-505Z Integrated Amplifier is about 385,00 yen in Japan-about $2500. Even with shipping and duty that is less than half of what they sell for in the US. Japanese imports (Like Accuphase) get a big markup in the US. I have have bought electronics from Japan in the past with no problems. I wouldn't hesitate to import a Luxman. In the extremely unlikely event it breaks, you can buy another one new and still come out ahead! |
I purchased my Accuphase from Japan. The voltage was converted to 120 for me. When the amp arrived it was quadruple boxed and not a finger print on it. Accuphase is one of the most reliable amps on the planet and I had no concerns about warranty what so ever. Paid half what it would have cost in the states. |
@edubbers it was a onetime purchase. I got mine from tokyo-raps on eBay. Super smooth transaction. I did live in Japan for 11 years in the 80's and 90's and I can attest to the high-quality standards for their equipment. It was all great when it was made in Japan, not so much anymore, you have to be choosy. I had a fantastic Onkyo 506RS amp and a Nakamichi Dragon Cassette deck. Sold it all off for a large profit when I moved back to the states in 2000. I thought I was done with my high-end stereo journey only to start over again about 5 years ago... |
I have a Luxman Japan SACD player using a voltage converter and it sounds fantastic. However the CD tray occasionally does not stay open and Luxman North America will not work on it. I would have to ship it to Japan, which is expensive and time consuming. The tray works 95% of the time so I am good, a more serious flaw and I would not be happy. Also given the relatively low power demands of a CD player the transformer is a non issue. I would be wary of using a transformer on an amplifier which has much higher more demanding power requirements. |
