I want to upgrade my Turntable to something heavier

I am about to retire from work. I would like to upgrade my turntable before I do this. I have a Pro-Ject, which I like a lot, but I have two big dogs. I have been considering something 1) heavier and 2) balanced. I have SourcePoint 10 Speakers driven by a PS Audio Stellar Amp. The Stelkar also offers Balanced inputs.

I am leaning towards the Pro-Ject X8 as being a good price with room for a better cartridge. I have considered VPI, but I don't care about upgrading. Once I am retired, this is it. Ideas or Suggestions?

SOTA Sapphire. Just bought one yesterday.

Exceptional four-point spring suspension, designed to isolate records from footfalls and environmental resonance without needing expensive racks.

Getting a heavier tt/plinth will improve the sonics for sure. Solving the rumble and vibration issue can be more of a trial and error endeavor.

I used a wall mounted tt shelf with my vintage rig when I had a tube tuner without a case stacked on top of the rest of the components. I needed some room above the tuner so it could breathe, hence the shelf. I had tremendous rumble with the shelf! I thought it was because of the proximity of one of the speakers to the tt being only a few feet away. I enjoyed that set up but I wasn't able to turn the volume up as much as I would have liked to in some situations while listening to vinyl.

Then I replaced the integrated amp to a more powerful receiver. I eliminated the tuner from the rig which opened up the top spot on the stack for the turntable. I was shocked to discover that ALL of the rumble was gone! It wasn't the proximity of the turntable to the speaker after all, it was the wall mounted tt shelf that was causing the rumble!

The vintage rig doesn't have a component rack, it's just a stack of components on a pine wood cabinet. The floor is concrete.

Before I changed things up, I too was considering upgrading the turntable which is a very light linear tracking tt. Now that the issue is solved, there is no need to improve the tt.

@audphile1

Funny, now I will think of that bugger, he should be remembered for his unique contribution to the world.

The local sandwich shop mentioned naming a sub I have them make for me (mixed sausage and meatballs, peppers, parmigana) ’the elliott’. I replied, "oh, good, finally I will have made a difference to the world".

We should have given him a name, we name cars, our GPS, ...
