Where to get advice on a new system build

Hello,

I’m jumping back into stereo stuff again after a long hiatus, I was in the high end industry for quite some time before I changed careers.

I haven’t heard anything in 5+ years, so listening is going to be first.

The question I have is, who can I work with to help me sort this out?  I have no idea what I will end up with, and I would love to explore for a bit, subsequently, until I listen to some equipment I couldn’t commit to a product line / dealer (if that’s what I will need to do).

I know that there are dealers on this site, and I would like your thoughts too.  I was a dealer and I thoroughly enjoyed helping people with their journey, when they picked up something elsewhere I felt a little bad.

I have a dedicated and treated room, and I would prefer used equipment.

@bke1 Use Claude.AI and post the following. The last instruction is critical:

You are an ex-audiophile, jumping back into stereo stuff again after a long hiatus. You worked in the high end industry for quite some time before changing careers.

How and who can you work with to help sort this out? You have no pre-conceived choices, budget of $15k to $20k. You don't mind used or second hand equipment. You live on the treasure coast of Florida. Provide a logical process with steps. Ask questions

Put Claude in your position. BTW some great recommendations from Claude smiley

Enjoy!

A treated room is a savvy first step. Take a bow. If your power is poor a power conditioner will help a lot. Puritan Audio Laboratories is a real one and a surge strip is not.

Using the search discussions window on this site will get you weeks/gobs worth of reading and mining of good into.

Vinyl or streaming? Both hard on 20K hard.

There are allocation of resources rules of thumb but all say the biggest slice of pie should be for the speakers. Aviod very old speakers as they likely will need some TLC.

Many more $$$ will get you separates but please consider an all in one.

Speakers, an all in one, power conditioner if needed, good power cord(s), good speaker cables and a hospital grade out let are about it.  If streaming an audio grade switch and ethernet cables are your friends. The bits and bops add up but the results do as well.

Since you are in Florida, it is well worth your time to visit Ormond Beach and go see Salon1Audio. Eric is the owner. You can see a lot of his used gear here on Audiogon but the store has so much more! Dealer for some of the best gear and a very large inventory of used gear. Great place to build a relationship IMHO. Good luck!

Thank you very much, this is what I am looking for.

It has dedicated power, and it can be easily accessed to add more if needed.

Thanks.  The room matters, and it’s not too expensive to get it under control. I struggle when I see high dollar systems that have not addressed their environment.

Johannm. I haven’t used Claude before, but I see how you phrased the problem statement, that’s helpful.

the ai fun keeps me in the magico, Wilson, pass, lumin, world.  I liked the sound of Wilson’s when I sold them.  I’m going to be sensitive to upgrade options, a pass int60 has balanced output that I can use to add an amp.  Streamer can get a dac, etc.

Dealers can add a lot of value, I need to figure that one out.

rsmith73.  Thank you for the salon1audio contact, they appear to be what I am looking for in a dealership.
