I had a great time at the show. Stayed at the Hyatt Regency, which is conveniently located about 35 steps from Perry's, my favorite steakhouse (pricy, but soooo worth it!). I had a blast hopping room to room, taking photos, and chatting with some of the designers. Virtually everyone was friendly and generous with their time.
I had the best time with Zeev in the PureAudioProject room. That man exudes a love of music in everything he does. We were talking about a Rudy Van Gelder recording of Coltrane that, by necessity, happened very late at night (or early morning, depending on your perspective) and discussing how we could hear the effect of the late hour on Coltrane's playing.
I also had wonderful discussions with Bill Dudleston in the Legacy Audio room and a great chat with the founder of Rockhopper Acoustics. There were quite a few other interactions that made the show experience incredibly valuable to me.
I was not in the market for anything in particular, but ideas I gathered have spurred me to take on a project that will improve the performance and integration of the subwoofers in our home theater system.
I also enjoy teaching and was pleased to be invited back to give a talk on the Diretta streaming protocol (with Jim Hunton, President of the Audiophile Foundation) and how I believe it could have a disruptive influence on streaming quality in our industry and hobby.
Besides audio, my other hobby is photography. I bought a new 35mm lens just for this show. Here's a link to some of the photos I took. Enjoy.
