Just bought a rogue rp-1, the 1st version, because I got a good deal on it. Comes later today. Bought it because it received very positive reviews and I think it will sound good with my class D nad amps thst are bridged. Has all the inputs I would need, except balanced. My other preamps are the schiit kara f and a vintage Rotel rc 995. The 995 i picked up for 200 bucks, it is mint. So for now, I think i got enough preamps to keep me busy for a while. All this is in a second system, I typically run my class A sugden A21se with my tannoys.
Anyone own one of these preamps ?
My buddy is looking to upgrade his preamp and is considering these. We’ve both read the various reviews, I’m just reaching out to see who might have personal experience with any of them. Any positive or negative feedback is welcome.
(He’s open to s/s or tube/hybrid). Obviously he will also assess what will be a good match to the rest of his system, but here we’re just looking for personal exposure to any of them. Some are still current models, others would be used:
— Benchmark LA4 (half-chassis footprint is annoying lol)
— Anthem
— Rogue Audio RP-9
— Ayre Acoustics KX-8
— Herron VTSP-360
Thanks all!

@gkelly , Tell me your joking. |
I briefly owned the LA-4 and agree completely with @zlone This preamp is very detailed and clean, but sterile and uninvolving. Didn't hang around long. |
An added note: the RP-9 comes with a hefty metal remote that allows you to alter the balance of the two channels, in addition to other functions. I have owned the RP-1, RP-7 v1, and now the RP-9 v2 and have never had an issue with channel balance with any of the preamps. Also, the folks at Rogue Audio are very responsive to questions. We had a “power flutter” here—the power going off and on several times in a few seconds—and then my RP-9 would not turn on. A call to Rogue got me up and running again with zero issues in less than a minute; I simply had to cycle the master on-off switch h on the back of the unit. The front on/off switch simply puts the unit in the standby mode, and the RP-9 needed to be restarted. |
