Warped LP's

Hey,

So, are some pressings just warped from factory?

I had purchased Springsteen’s Letter to You from Amazon (double LP) and the first LP has a very visible warp/wobble to it, although it sounded fine.

But didn’t like that and so exchanged it for another and this one also seems to have a bit of a wobble to it although not as bad as the first one (same side).

Since it seems to sound ok, I will probably just stick with it.

Amazon packing seems pretty secure and safe so I don’t think it is on them although who knows how they are kept at their warehouse.

But wanted to inquire if this happens time to time.

Thnx

It’s been reported that during the record pressing process, removing the LP from the stamper early is another reason for warping. I tend to agree with this thought.

"Side D is just an image without any grooves". The one I have like that is textured. Damn thing can't be used for anti-skate

protractor one side, other side blank for anti-skate

Get a reflex clamp.

JA Michell Record Clamp Review & Demonstration

Dishing a warped LP with the spindle washer is the game changer.

Nothing is more disturbing than watching a video of a nice rig playing warped disc!

Reflex clamp for us plebians without a vacuum holdown setup😂

Your Mofi table has a spindle long enough to accommodate reflex clamp use. Some tables-Rega/Technics have very short spindle and cannot use.

I for one disagree with the above in general.

I have experimented with various weights, clamps, record mats,

...etc.I have found that the Lp should be as decoupled as possible from any mechanical bearing. Using a screw down clamp only couples you more than before. This is not good Therefore I prefer a record weight purposely designed to use light weight yet researched materials to maximize the resonance dissipation during playback.
