What Tube Preamplifier Under $1800 to Choose?

Hello to all:

I have a solid state setup (upgraded McCormack DNA125, passive preamplifier, Pontus II 12th DAC, and URD CD transport), and I am thinking about acquiring a tube based preamplifier to give more warmth, bloom, and less "edgy" (smoother?) high frequencies.  I see preamplifiers like the Quicksilver (12at7 tubes), or things like the Rogue RP-1 (12au7 tube output stage), and others.  I am overall aiming at a slightly more smooth, warm, and less SS sounding quality (particularly in the higher frequencies).  For those of you with tube & SS experience, what preamplifier would you be looking for to meet the sound criteria I am seeking?  I do not want to spend much above $1800.  Thanks in advance!!!

I can't believe that deHavilland has been on there for 5 months and no buyer.

Yeah, these brands have to keep marketing to people to remain alive. Kara has retired. It's kind of sad to see newer gear elevated over better gear because (a) name recognition and marketing and (b) self-affirmation. This is why a review like the one I posted by Dick Olsher has weight. People who really know what DeHavilland is do not blink -- they get one. I think Rogue is also quite a valid and better choice. But Schiit? I mean, look at that tiny box? What kind of implementation could there be there, compared to a Rogue or Cary or DeHavilland? It's ridiculous to compare them.

Decooney for the price the freya is good. But the Galion p75 is just on onother level. It has holographic sound, huge soundstage, bass is next to none, smooth and fast, very dynamic macro and micro . Vocal is palpable. The freya don’t have it. I still have the freya . The p75 I heard it at friend house hook with TS 75.

This Sachs D2 pre would likely give you the tube sound you’re looking for.  A bit over your price target but may be negotiable and worth paying up a little for IMHO.  Just another option, and best of luck.

@audioguy85 , Congratulations on your purchase. I run Tekefunken G73-R’s in the RP-1 and rotate a Had Indpire and a modded Akitika with Zu Omens. I have a modded Thorens TD-160 II with a Grado Prestige wood body cartridge. It’s pairs nicely with the RP-1. I’ve aquired a Rogue Hera and M-180’s for a Big Rig. I recently talked to Bill at Rogue when I had the 180’s converted to Dark. I asked about a “ Dark “ RP-1, he said they don’t have one, but send it in and I’m sure we can do something to it. When I can get my wife to part with it off to Rogue it goes. I’m blessed to have a wife that appreciates a Mobil Fidelity record as a gift. Happy Trails , Mike B.

@buellrider97, yea I'd say you can count your blessings that your wife enjoys this hobby with you. Mine can't stand it and thinks my equipment and media, mostly records, are clutter. As far as the rp1, I should have it soon. It's being paired with my two nad c268's that are bridged, for 300 watts per channel

For class d. They sound pretty good. I think the tubes in the rp1 should pair well with the class d nads. A similar concept as the rogue sphinx, except much more power on tap. In my main set up, I run a sugden a21se driving my Tannoy eatons.
