Advice on speaker cables.

Hello. First time post here and I understand there’s no definitive answer, just looking for advice. I have a midrange system to me anyway and most of it was purchased new recently after giving up on repair of vintage gear. I’ve been using the same 12 gauge Apature copper speaker wire since 1982 and figured I would upgrade. I didn’t realize the hole I was going down. I’ve tried Blue Jean 10 white sounded dull, as well as WBC 7 gauge which I somewhat liked except bass seemed boomy at the expense of treble and midrange. Cables I’ve been advised to try are Kimber 4pr or 8pr as well as Audio Analysis oval 12. I’ve only used bare wire in the past not sure if that matters. My system is Yamaha as1200, Cxn100 streamer, Rotel 1572 mkii cd, Nakamichi oms1a cd. Speakers are Polk monitor 10a I bought new in 1982 with recently upgraded clarity cap crossovers. All interconnects are WBC. Appreciate any advice on speaker cables. Thank you.

Op, love to hear you're enjoying the kimbers!  So funny how many weirdos show up just to tell us "idiots" what we can and can't hear.  As if they are experts on audio delivery and fully understand cable construction from the dialectics to the capacitance etc and how it can affect different systems.  Sad they'll never hear a top notch system with proper cabling but I guess extreme skepticism will punish those unwilling to try to go against their so called understanding of audio science.  I'd dare them to try a spool of all cruddy cabling vs top notch cabling on a serious system in a serious room and tell me the cruddy cables sound as good or better.  Get real.  These people make me laugh lol.  To go in to an audiophile forum just to naysay and try to make people feel bad for enjoying their hobby is quite sad and a little funny lol.

As far as interconnects, I never heard a giant difference between my mogamis vs some top notch Shunyata cables but there was a difference.  Just not worth the price of entry I thought.  Maybe those Kimber ones @audphile1 recommends may make a bigger difference though.  I seem to agree with audphiles comments and experience so I wouldn't doubt they make a difference in a top notch system

@audphile1 fingers crossed I’m going to say yes. I’ve been letting the system run in the background for quite a few hours everyday. I’ve decided to keep them and just be happy for now. The build quality and bananas make them worthwhile. The banana connection just feels solid compared to the other two cables I tried. I did order a pair of Hero cables to try, so we’ll see how that goes. I’ll probably confuse myself more.
@decooney they won’t be disturbed unless a new component or speaker change comes. I’m pretty value oriented and definitely don’t plan on big spending until I see how things turn out.

@jrareform i completely agree with everything you said. I don’t want to stir anything because everybody is entitled to their opinion. But I know what I hear and I’m happy although always curious. Somewhere in all the reading I’ve done, some have said the interconnects made more difference than other cables. I really don’t know. I’m going to try a pair of Hero’s and see. I’m going to avoid trying power cables for now. The WBC rca’s I’m using are probably fine I just want to compare. The ones I have are made with their own wire and they used to use Mogami. I really appreciate everyone’s advice and help. Thank you.

@kmm84 good for you to try things out for yourself.  I noticed a significant improvement from power cables personally.  If you ever want to dabble in cabling that isn't exorbitant, I have had great success with Cardas Parsec power cables on my amps and front end components.  They fleshed out the sound more than a stock cable and I preferred them over much more expensive cables for their more natural and fluid presentation in my system.  Can find bargains for used ones.  There are never many on the used market. I gather this is because the owners have been quite happy with them.

Then the other component that helped a ton was Shunyata power conditioning.  Can find used MPC-12 for bargains (got mine for $650).  I think proper power is so key.  If you get a chance to borrow any Shunyata gear I think you'd be surprised.  I use a Shunyata Theta 20 amp power cable for both my Shunyata conditioners with amazing results.  Each component matters in a good system!  Best of luck to you and keep us posted on your experience with your Hero interconnects.  Curious myself if you hear anything

@jrareform does your power conditioner provide surge protection as well? I’m just using an Isobar Ultra for surge protection. I know unplugging during a storm is the best but not always an option in the summer. On my old home theater setup I’ve had a Monster HTS something and it’s always done okay. I’m not sure if using the Isobar degrades anything. Any advice on reasonable surge/conditioner?
