Roon Issues - Not able to play certain tracks

I have been running into this issue when Roon is in the radio mode where spontaneously it runs into a track it can’t play. It just sits there trying to play it.
When I go to that album and attempt to manually play that same track on Qobuz the result is the same - it won’t play. Plays other tracks from the albums just fine.
If I go back to Roon radio and skip that track the next song is played no issues.
No such problems with Tidal.

I have rebooted the Roon Nucleus One, rebooted my network, rebooted my DAC.
Even signed out of streaming services and signed back in. No bueno. This is in addition to it being sluggish and requiring an almost daily reboot to maintain sound quality and proper operating speed. Now this…

Anyone else with this problem?

@lalitk

Speaking of JPLAY, check out the impressive list of manufacturers now JPLAY-certified, it’s honestly tempting me to pick up one of those streamers and ditch ROON altogether. What streamer are you using to stream music?

My Weiss 501 is Jplay certified, and has quite a decent built-in streamer, but I have yet to try Jplay direct into it. In the main system I use my Antipodes K50 and use AES into the 501. Antipodes have set it up so all I have to do is 1 click in the dashboard to enable the host Minimserver / MPD, and download Jplay on the iphone remote, login to Tidal/Qobuz and it syncs, and in less than 60 I am streaming with great sound. It was one of those "why didn’t I do this last year?" moments. Sometimes technology is wonderful (when it works :) New DAC on the way though, not telling yet but a hint: it is grey. wink

Jplay is also working wonderfully in the office setup through an Emerson Digital streamer.

This just released, check out the new Oladra:

@mgrif104 Same positive reports from Antipodes forum, Jplay is middle ground between Roon and Squeeze; not quite the sound quality of Squeeze, but close enough, and not quite the UI of Roon, but plenty better than Squeeze. I think if many were to choose just one it would be Jplay.

And yes I hated Tidal for a while for their rap and MQA priority. When Qobuz was finally offered in Canada I RAN to it. But I find it quite a coincidence they pushed me to sign up for a 3 year subscription to "lock in current prices" (I declined), and then 2 months later they do a big server swap without beta testing anything and 10% of the songs don’t play. The website says nothing regarding the issue, no apologies or thanking users for their patience. Frustrating.

Of course going forward Marcin Ostapowitz cares about sound quality most of all, so Jplay will never be compromised by marketing it toward the masses. The perfect app for audiophiles?

I still have hopes for Roon with what looks like a major overhaul scheduled to go live 4/20. If they’re unable to address performance issues and improve sound quality, I’m killing my subscription and sticking with jplay

@mclinnguy

I’ll be very curious to hear about the new DAC!  And regarding the new Oladra - the dealer I bought my REL subs from carries Antipodes (and Aurender and Pink Faun). Rumor has it, the new model Oladra is a significant step up from the old. And the old one was already terrific and a step up from the other offerings.

A new/separate server would solve a few other issues for me, but my wallet is crying uncle…

Hope all is well with you.

@mgrif104

Agreed. Life is a balance. It was always in my long term plan, I just thought: Why wait?

The new Oladra stuff is definitely not cheap, but hard to argue with the results and the philosophy of the company, I know @lalitk has this same philosophy:

"The best results from an Oladra do not usually come from adding more.

They come from removing obstacles. From giving the unit clean power, stable operation, time to settle, sympathetic cabling, sensible placement, and a playback method that allows the music to speak with less interference.

These things may seem small when taken one by one. Together, they can shape the difference between hearing a system and feeling a performance.

And that, ultimately, is the point."

Antipodes is coming out with their own switch too

Just heading out the door to golf, it is almost warm here, so all is very well with me, hope all is well with you as well! but your uncle word makes me chuckle as it reminds me of what one of the guys I golf with always says when one hits a less than perfect shot, and blurts out some "if" excuse: "If my aunt had nuts she’d be my uncle"

there was an update to roon yesterday, seems to have addressed the qobuz track stalling issue
