I had a weird issue where Roon had trouble with some albums if I had some of those tracks locally. So, for instance, if I purchased track 4 of an album, it would not be able to see that Tidal had the whole album.
Roon Issues - Not able to play certain tracks
I have been running into this issue when Roon is in the radio mode where spontaneously it runs into a track it can’t play. It just sits there trying to play it.
When I go to that album and attempt to manually play that same track on Qobuz the result is the same - it won’t play. Plays other tracks from the albums just fine.
If I go back to Roon radio and skip that track the next song is played no issues.
No such problems with Tidal.
I have rebooted the Roon Nucleus One, rebooted my network, rebooted my DAC.
Even signed out of streaming services and signed back in. No bueno. This is in addition to it being sluggish and requiring an almost daily reboot to maintain sound quality and proper operating speed. Now this…
Anyone else with this problem?

@audphile1 😆😆😆 exactly! Ad for my Nuclear trash one: free to good bat and hillside. Must shoot slo-mo video capturing the destruction. |
@audiopacer Roon shoots itself in the foot whenever their own branded hardware falls short. That’s a shame. I have determined sound quality is a non issue. Roon sounds good as it should by default and provides fantastic DSP functionality to tweak as needed. Tweaking is always part of the equation for best sound and Roon DSP is the ultimate tweak. |
Go with the raw computing specs when choosing a platform to run Roon on. Steer clear of any high end marketing gimmickry alone or any other hearsay regarding “sound quality”. You want pure computing performance! Newest PCs or whichever with fastest CPU, multiple cores, sufficient memory and that’s mostly it. If it’s advertised as being fast and powerful enough to run modern AI apps it should also do well with Roon.

I’ll be sticking with Roon. @marcin_gps at JPlay was unfortunately unable to fix my playback issue with JPlay. He maintains it is a network issue, whatever that means. It’s a straightforward fiber home network with Ethernet backhaul. So, it’s disappointing. |
