How old were you when audio gear first caught your interest?

Wondering how old people were when they first started to get interested in audio gear.

I first heard of Dual and Acoustic Research when I was around 13, but it did nothing for me, however, by the time I was 15 or 16 I definitely was interested. A relative had a Dual turntable, Scott receiver, Tandberg reel to reel and Rectilinear speakers (and he still has that gear, and the Rectilinears are still in use).  I remember helping him get the speakers into his apartment. I also knew of Thorens.

That’s all back in the 70’s

I was 15, went to camp in WI, came home wanting a 'real' stereo system. My dad bought me some DLK 1 speakers that I liked (seconds), picked up a Pioneer PL10 turntable and a Sony receiver model I don't remember. Thus began my journey.

Hello All!  t the age of 9 or 10 I started drilling holes in my mother's book cases and mounting speakers in them. I went door to door with my little red wagon asking for old radios and record players. I disassembled them to find out how they worked. Great fun. I still watch trash cans for discarded audio gear. Enjoy the hobby and the music.

I think it was 1953 and I was 17.  A neighbor had a JBL C34 rear-loaded corner horn, Gerrard changer with Shure variable reluctance cartridge, and an amp he designed with separate chassis for power supply.  I was amazed.

1965, I was 8 years old. My uncle's system. Herb Alpert's "A Taste of Honey" on a Garrard turntable, Macintosh amp, Klipsch Klipschorn speakers. A presentation I shall never forget. Thanks for ever, Uncle Raymond. GRYS
