Help me clarify, is there a difference between 'forward' and 'bright'?
I had a pair of 4408A, actually enjoyed them, have mixed feelings about letting them go. Always in search of the next one, the audio equivalent of the 'Hi Fidelity' movie with John Cusack, always think 'the next one' will be IT. Currently enjoying...

so a small bookshelf then can sound bright, that is have a 'lack of tonal balance/prevailing highs' even without excess treble energy in a frequency chart just due to the fact there is no low bass from say a small box, think NHT Absolute Zero or m...

Parkergetdean, That makes sense to me, yes.
Help me clarify, is there a difference between 'forward' and 'bright'?
For sure, totally agree. No substitute for my own two ears. I was just trying to understand the semantics of what the intended meaning is when I read these two adjectives. I find 'forward' can be lifelike, or brash and artificial. Bright can mean,...
Help me clarify, is there a difference between 'forward' and 'bright'?
so, if i understand correctly, for  example, a Triangle Comete model, known for its 'in the room' lively horn, could be perceived as forward due to aforementioned nearer-sounding midrange, yet not necessarily bright, or vica versa.
How old were you when audio gear first caught your interest?
I was 15, went to camp in WI, came home wanting a 'real' stereo system. My dad bought me some DLK 1 speakers that I liked (seconds), picked up a Pioneer PL10 turntable and a Sony receiver model I don't remember. Thus began my journey.
Acoustic Energy Ae 500 speaker. Any experience?
Reviving the dead here, but I'd love to know if anyone has compared these AE500s directly side by side to the Totem Sky speakers, about the same size and close enough in price. Anyone?
Still in love with Fritz's Carbon 7 SE Mk 2 Speakers (not that you asked but...)
I'm happy you are still enthralled with Fritz's Carbon 7 MK2. I enjoyed them for some time, I believe you and I corresponded about these 2 or 3 years ago. To be ultra picky, I found the high end just a hair, a tad muted, or better put as 'not as p...
Might be living overseas, electronics adaptability
Thank you so much all, this is very helpful. No turntable/motor, right now just the NAD amp and my Onkyo C7030 CD player. So, from what I gather the 50 Hz frequency shouldn’t give me too much trouble, obviously the voltage converter is a must.
Class D - A Fork in the Road
New to Class D. I had a Wyred 4 Sound that I really, really wanted to like, lot of power, not bad but it did sound 'clinical' to my ears, and the high end didn't have something I was used to in terms of realism and sparkle. Tried a Fosi, yech, not...
Help picking a CD player
Can't agree with the Onkyo recommendation. Sonically, yes, it is good. But it skips, doesn't read, discs that other machines have zero problems with, and not nearly as fool-proof as others I've had including a 1990's era CAL Icon player with 'olde...
Could you use a little advice on recently delivered speakers..
Thank you Moonwatcher, and thank you all, some good advice. here.

Sorry I can't seem to post the two pics I had properly. Basically an empty cardboard box with each speaker wrapped in a double layer of bigger bubble bubble wrap. That was it. No layers on sides nor bottom, nothing in between save for the bubble w...

Only visible damage is a slight chip on veneer on back top corner of same speaker with plugs facing down in box, barely visible, and a smaller one on top front of speaker which had the front facing down. I cannot prove that wasn't there before or ...

Please don't misunderstand me, I'm not blaming the seller per se. He has been a gentleman about it so far. I'm aghast at the packers, they do this for a living and I'm just astounded they would pack it the way they did. I previously got a pair of ...
