Was that told to you, 'off the record' Eric? 😅
Finally a really good sounding LP pressing of Pet Sounds?
Pet Sounds has long been held in high regard musically, but not sonically (my 1966 mono LP sounds like a 3rd-generation copy made at 3-3/4ips) The video below is a 4-way discussion of the upcoming 1-Step LP that is claimed to change that situation.

Ha! I paused before telling Inglot what I did, thinking he might justifiably find me to be being insulting and/or rude. But from the interviews with him I had read, and his in person demeamor, I figured he would take it in the spirit it was said: From one Everly Brothers lover to another. The Rhino LP's sound real good, the Ace LP's just better. The blame must be placed on Rhino, not Bill: it was their mastering system, not his. I'd love for Kevin Gray to get ahold of the EVB tapes; his system is all tube!

I'm also interested in that new release -- to echo bdp24 I hear nothing but good things about the CATP release of PS and would hope this could possibly be an even better pressing. Is anyone interested in the "Vinylphyle" release that's coming out concurrently? I don't know much about stereo releases of PS, but could this one be promising? The AP 45RPM (Kevin Gray) is also highly regarded I hear? Almost want to try all three releases -- two mono PS, two stereo PS (I'm just a stereo fan in general, across the board, to be honest). |
@aleceiffel: The Vinylphyle pressing of Pet Sounds is using the 1966 tape as it's source, the 1-Step the 1972 tape. That's important, as is the 1-Step mastering (with the added factor of the mixing console being bypassed) and the vinyl compound being Neotech VR-900-D2.
