Finally a really good sounding LP pressing of Pet Sounds?

I put on my Sundazed mono of Canned Heat self-titled earlier. It sounded fabulous. So there's a comparison on mono recordings from the era, sorta.

@slaw: In the 1980’s Sundazed was doing excellent reissues of 1950's and '60's albums before anyone else except Rhino, a lot of which I bought. Of particular interest were The Byrds albums, and on Rhino Everly Brothers albums. At the same time Ace Records in England were also reissuing many Every Brothers albums (the Brothers have always been favorites in England, Dave Edmunds and Nick Lowe including a 4-song 7" 45 of their recordings of EV Brothers songs with the first pressing of Rockpile’s sole album. I have a pretty big EVB LP collection, 32 titles).

In the late-80’s I bumped into Rhino reissue engineer Bill Inglot in the Rhino Records retail store in Westwood, and told him I found the Ace LP’s to sound better than the same titles in the Rhino pressings. He told me he concurred, and attributed the difference to the superior d-2-a converters Ace Records used in mastering their pressings.

I paused before telling Inglot what I did, thinking he might justifiably find me to be being insulting and/or rude. But from the interviews with him I had read, and his in person demeamor, I figured he would take it in the spirit it was said: From one Everly Brothers lover to  another. The Rhino LP's sound real good, the Ace LP's just better. The blame must be placed on Rhino, not Bill: it was their mastering system, not his. I'd love for Kevin Gray to get ahold of the EVB tapes; his system is all tube!
