I have simplified my digital front end, an optical filter in the chain before signal reaches my DAC/Roon Server; specifically the Telegärtner OPT BRIDGE 1000M optical isolator. I was probably an early adopter of this type of device. Very effective in noise isolation and analog like presentation.
The reason for recommending LHY is two folds, the brand reputation and effectiveness of LAN based optical isolation. I wouldn’t necessarily recommend Telegartner to anyone starting to explore optical isolation, mainly due to its cost. Since it was introduced, several manufacturers have come out with more affordable alternatives that achieve similar results.
What I do appreciate, though, is the single-box design. Compared to the typical SFP-to-RJ45 fiber media converter setup with optical cables and linear power supplies on both ends, a single box design is much cleaner and avoids a lot of unnecessary clutter, at least in my opinion.
In my system, optical isolation with conventional LAN cables (I am using FTA LAN cables) has consistently sounded more organic than SFP-to-RJ45 fiber media converter setups. The latter often struck me as somewhat dry and clinical, with a reduction in dynamic expression, despite the fact that we’re theoretically just transmitting bits and packetized data.
As far return policy, I suggest you to contact LHY. It may not be worthwhile to ship it back given tariff and elevated cost of shipping, not to mention re-stocking fee. Alternatively, you can try iFi device off Amazon,
