Hi
I had the Goldnote PH10 and psu and was so pleased with it I upgradd to the PH1000 and matching psu.
Can strongly recommend both Very good natural sound, versatile and easy to use
Phono Stage - Gold Note PH -10 & PSU 10 power supply ? or comparable
I'm upgrading my tube ARC pre-amp and looking for your experience with Phono Stage units, please. Although I've had several pre-amps, I haven't had a pre-amp that's only line stage and a separate phono stage unit. Love my vinyl and have a $5K MC Cartridge Considering Gold Note. Perhaps the PH-10 or PH-5.2 w/respective power supplies.
My TT rig is ~ $14k and considering a ~$20K list pre amp but they're all line stage only.
Is $ 4.5K-$5 a good target price point for a phono stage?
I really don't want to go to $7-10K+ range.
What is a good price pt. guideline for a better phone stage?
Looking for recommendations and guidance
Thanks
@tomic601 I looked at the ARC Ref Phono 2SE specs and the gain settings are pretty limited. So you would have to have a cartridge that matches well with this unit. For example my LOMC with 0.4mv output requires 60db of gain. With ARC because I would run XLR out the specs are 51dB (Low), 74dB (High) at1kHz BAL So it wouldn’t be a good fit. Am I on the right track here? |
Well, your cartridge would be fine with 74db of gain, assuming low noise. 60db is a sort of lower limit but not an absolute that cannot be exceeded. The amount of phono gain needed for a particular cartridge is also a function of downstream gain if you have a linestage, amplifier input sensitivity, and speaker efficiency. |
thanks all. Getting ARC REF 6se pre amp It’s line stage only. Been using ARC Sp20 koestu rosewood signature , .40 mv output cartridge have phono set at 200 now Will look at ARC ref 2se phono aS well as strongly consider PH10 w/psu wondering if Gold Note is coming with a PH10.2 since it’s been out awhile and now there’s the 5.2.. |
