Just upgraded my speakers - do I still need the subs

I just purchased a used pair of KEF reference one Meta speakers to upgrade from my LS 50 Metas which I have paired with 2 KC 62 subwoofers. I am looking for some opinions on whether I need to keep the subs or whether I can go ahead and sell them along with my LS 50s.

yes the subs are needed for best performance - just need to retune for correct x-over and level for the new mains

Bass speed not really. Woofer and midrange integration yes. Also, getting the time domain an phase correct is very important for sub integration. 😎

Here is a good article on the subject See link below:

While I agree that most speakers are improved by the addition of sub(s), the Ref 1s can go far lower than their specs suggest. Typical in room response (if you have some support from the port reflecting off the back wall) will go to the lower 30s. Not full range, but still pretty deep. They can also play much louder than the LS50s.

Perhaps the best approach is to try them w/o your current sub vs with it and see what you prefer.

They’re really nice speakers. Enjoy!

Congrats on your upgrade, great speakers!  You will need subs and might want to seriously consider upgrading when funds are available.  Maybe the KC92s wink
