New Audiophile?

Last night, my 15 year-old daughter was "surprised" to discover that Tate Mcrae sounds better on my stereo than her iPhone.

We'll see what becomes of this.

Cool! I planted my kids in front of my stereo and said play whatever you want. They developed learned a lot! In a year, I had gotten her a turntable, a small Fosi integrated, and a Schiit phono stage. She's using my old Pinnacle speakers and controlling everything with her phone. She on her way.

My kids now in their early forties, readily acknowledged that their music sounded better on my system than whatever they were using .
My daughter proudly informed me recently that they bought and audiophile purchase.  It turned out to be a sound bar connected to their TV.  One of my sons ex gf bought one of those turntable/amp/speaker in a box deals for $100 because “vinyl sounds so much better “ and then proceeded to buy around 10 albums for $40 each from Barnes and Noble.

I laugh but my gear and physical media collection probably strike them as the height of absurdity

It can start for them with a simple receiver and a small pair of speakers.  A simple cable from the iPhone to RCA jacks plugged into Aux jack on the receiver.

A nice gentlemen came by for his son’s birthday and bought an older Marantz 2230 receiver and custom 2-way speakers I rebuilt with Scanspeak drivers in it.

LOL, he liked it so much during the purchase demo that he started teasing he’d give his system to his son and keep this one for himself. He called later on to share his son "loves it".  Something to plug the iPhone "in to" seems to be key, fwiw. :)

I replaced that older Marantz in the garage with a new Yamaha 2-channel receiver, while not as midrange smooth, paired with some softer speakers works great too.
