Weiss DAC 501 Mark 1 Ethernet Verizon issue
Anyone out there have the Weiss DAC 501 Mk 1? I’m having trouble getting Quobuz or JPLAY to Recognize the Weiss DAC. Anyone out there have the same issues? I think it may be a Verizon issue as I have my Ethernet cable coming out of a Verizon extender into the Weiss DAC….

I have owned my Weiss more than three years and have never had the slightest desire to change to something else. It all depends on your sonic taste. The Weiss provides a “you’re in the studio“ presentation with great clarity and transparency so you really are getting close to what the engineers actually heard. It would not be a sound that everyone would like and my previous DAC was an expensive Lumin product which sounded lifeless in comparison to the Weiss. BTW, I use the streamer and preamp functions. JPlay and Qobuz utilized. This is an incredible piece. Suggest you get an IT pro to help.

Hey @2andy . I do know how frustrating these things can be. A will tell you it is a network issue. B will tell you it is a hardware issue. From personal experience, I have learned to at least check the internet speed at the streamer or DAC. EZ to use an adapter (Ethernet > USB C) and plug it into a laptop. Run Google speed test. Now at least you know your upload and download speeds AT THE STREAMER. You can do this multiple times throughout the day, and at least rule out bad ethernet. |
i have never had a problem with the ethernet feed into my weiss when the lan input is used -- usually issues of this sort are with the service provider modem/router or with the user in-house feed if run through some repeaters or nest pods to get a wired lan connection into an otherwise not-connected room regarding the weiss 501 mk 2 upgrade it is somewhat expensive and there is improvement sonically but it is subtle -- my sense is that there is even more micro detail unearthed from good recordings, and an enhanced sense of space/spatial cues in recordings, particularly stage depth and ’openness’ ... overall top to bottom balance is not altered as far as i can hear, nor is the ethereal silkiness of the sound (perhaps its greatest strength), despite the tremendous detail one can hear effortlessly |
