What happened to Mytek?

Mytek seems to have gone silent over the past 3 years or so.   I looked around online and in their web site and can't find any recent product reviews, their news page and jobs listings haven't been updated since 2021 or so.

Did they silently go under?

This interview is pretty old by now but gives some hints as to the situation and is worth a read:

Keep in mind this is A) from before Mytek and their partners HEM (who now make Ferrum Audio gear) split up, and B) only one sided, with the HEM folks giving their perspective and nothing from Michal of Mytek.

Even so, you can hear some frustration already. Who would talk about their partners like that in an open forum? They are basically badmouthing or minimizing the contributions Michal made to the project over the years. I would say by the time this interview took place in 2019, things were probably already going south quickly. You can read between the lines.

I am not even a huge Mytek fan but I take Michal's side on this situation. Seems like he was wronged by the HEM people. Michal appears to be continuing with Mytek and focusing on the higher end (Empire line, including the new GANFET monoblocks at $10k each), also doing side projects like designing the MoFi StudioDAC.

Just for potential customers, be aware that Mytek (Michal) has a reputation for taking pre-orders and never delivering the goods. There are a number of threads on the Roon forums, as well as BBB complaints and Ripoff Report ones.  Excuses, lack of responsiveness, months to years long waits for service, etc.

I prepaid for a Brooklyn Bridge II upgrade over 3 years ago, and have not yet received my unit. It's literally impossible to get anyone to answer the phone, nor do they reply to emails (I did get one reply - 8 weeks ago, saying they would reach out immediately. Of course they never did). The odd chance you get someone to answer, there's a list of excuses, usually a sob story about how difficult things have been (earlier it was the HEM case, likely lately it will have been tariffs), and never any resolution.

Whether or not you like the gear (I liked it better when I was able to get support when needed, much less now after being treated as poorly as I have), as a customer it's good to know what you can expect when you send your money or swipe your card.

Just a public service announcement to help inform potential customers what they might likely expect when dealing with Mytek. Whether or not you choose to buy their gear is entirely up to you.

@thorl that sucks. Not sure why you waited 3 years though. Can you even get your money back now?
