Burmester 232 vs mono blocks in the same price range ange
Bought a Burmester 232 5 months back. Broken in by now. Absolutely love the signature sound. Just wondering if mono blocks in the same price range ($25K - $30K) would sound much better or the same. The Burmester was a blind purchase since I had it in my car and loved the sound. What is special about a $30K integrated amplifier in terms of audio circuitry etc?

@ronboco . Think the room acoustics are fine. Quite pleased with the sound. Will keep your advice re the speakers in mind. Though Focals were high end. |
Yes, the higher the price in Burmeister and in most high end gear the better it sounds. At each level it tends to be hard to believe... well, until you hear the next level. When folks audition different brands, which have very different house sounds, then they often reach the erroneous conclusion that a brand (one they happen to like the house sound of) is a much better deal than some other brand (which they do not appreciate the house sound of). A well balanced system that is carefully chosen will typically fall into proportions something like this: 30% speakers, 15% amp, 15% preamp, 15% amp and 15% streamer. I often mention this because lots of folks think the streamer doesn't mater... or they don't need a preamp. If you are using and integrated... it counts as two... so 30% is appropriate. |
You have a nice integrated amp. Why not optimize and get the max of what you have before looking for a change. For example the Cardas Clear reflections are good but you would get much better performance from Cardas Clear, Nordost Valhalla 2 or Audience Front Row or better. That would be better spending of your money IMHO. But ur's your money :-) |
