High end sound

So I'm gonna get to the point. My system sounds kind of flat and dull

It doesn't seem to have crisp tight sound it all. It should sound much better. I think than it does. I'm wondering if it's the old speaker cables and interconnects and I have a old vintage phono cartridge it just seems like it's kind of dead sounding...Vpi classic

Can you post the sound (or video) link of your system? This reminds me a blind men and an elephant story. Alex/Wavetouch audio

Hate to be a downer but have you had your hearing checked lately? Our ears don't get better with age.

+1. I just turned 78. I stopped chasing the holy grail since I have little to no hearing above 8Khz. in reference to the OP, I'm not a cable denier but their effect is so subtle that they are the last thing you should suspect.

OP + 1 on the hearing. You near a Costco? +1 on the capacitors. And +10 on room. If nothing more quelling the first reflection point (info on web and it is easy to do) a biggie. Another thing to consider is if your chair is higher than your ears that can dampen sound too.

@pointtrucking - and I have a old vintage phono cartridge it just seems like it's kind of dead sounding…

The cartridge stylus wears out eventually, what’s the condition of your cartridge? How many hours of use?
