Stylus cleaners

I used to use Onzo ZeroDust with my first few cartridges years ago. With the last two cartridges, Hana ML, I have only been using the included Hana brush for every side of LP and the MoFi LP-9 liquid stylus cleaner (I get as much fluid out of the brush by pressing it against the neck of the bottle before I clean stylus) every 3-4 records.
Onzo is collecting dust especially since the Fremer’s The Tracking Angle article.

I’ve been looking at DS Audio ST-50 but at $80 I’m not sure it will do anything better than my current cleaning methods.

What’s your stylus cleaning routine?

Paper towel is an absolute lint and fiber bomb… lint free clean room grade wipes are very inexpensive

I think when I had the Grado cartridge, I cleaned my records with  the VPI 16.5. Anywy, Joe Grado absolutely asked what liquid I was cleaning my stylus with. I was using Last. He told me not to use it. Last was the gunk he had to clean off my stylus. That was the last day I used Last stylus cleaner, and I had already quit using Last on my records. I was worried about what it would seal in. It's hard to hear, I know. All those years I used it and thought I was doing a good and just audiophile thing. At this point, though, the fewer things I have to do to a record before finally getting to listen to it, the happier I am.

He probably assumed you were using the preservative and his comments were probably correct. The cleaner on the other hand leaves no residue and after using it for more than thirty years I can attest that LAST cleaner is an excellent product. I clean my stylus with it before every record I play which contributes significantly to the sound quality.

Just like when people say Rega turntables have speed stability issues when they were only known to run a little bit fast. Semantics!

I've seen built up junk on the cantilever from Last cleaner, looked like solder. It cleaned off with the Last Cleaner.

I used to blow off the Last brush before putting it back in the bottle but it did no good. Junk was still in the bottle. My Stylast bottle is super clean so it shows that the cleaner does clean very well but it sticks to the brush so it has to be rinsed off.
