line level preamp out to sub line in; sub high pass line level out to amp, that gives both the amp and the speakers a break, neither try to make low bass.
that sub, line out is to a second sub I believe, you need to read it's manual
Looking for a well matched Preamp. Pls advise!
Currently using my Marantz as my preamp. No longer needing for surround etc.
my current equipment is :
Adcom GFA555ms
KEF LS50 50th anniversary.
MHTD Orchid tube dac(used for streaming Roon).
Oppo BDP105. (Occasionally for CD transport)
SVS PB12-NSD Sub
Victrola Carbon with Ortofon blue
So I’m looking to replace the Marantz with a proper Preamp. Need to drive the sub as well as a Phono amp(in case I move on from the Victrola)
Looking for suggestions! TIA
What Marantz are you using? I disagree completely that it’s not worthwhile to upgrade your preamp. A preamp is critical, and a good dedicated stereo preamp will greatly improve overall system performance whether you’re using your turntable or DAC especially if you’re currently using a mass market AVR. |
@soix Thanks. Marantz SR7005. |
@fatdaddy2 @mggartner Thanks for your thoughts. While I’m pretty happy with the Vic, (90% of my listening is using the wired connection) It nice to stream an album to my office or deck via Sonos. Having said that, i would like the Preamp to be somewhat versatile if i decide to move on from the Victrola. |
Rotel’s RC-1572MKII Preamplifier, Note I have the Mk1. While I’m searching for another hi end preamp after I sold all my mac gear, I picked up one of these used for a few hundred bucks and I’m really surprised how nice it is for the money. It seems to not affect anything in the chain negatively and doesn’t add much of its own flavor, its clean, detailed and musical. Full of features as well, DAC, MM stage, Balanced in an out as well as RCA’s. Sub out etc. decent remote as well. For system reference I’m driving a $24000 Moon amp and Magico A3’s with it. It’s rather a nice little preamp that is a great value IMO. Especially if you find one used. |
