Adjusting for Tweeter height with monitors
This may be a dumb question but how do you guys go about making sure your ears and tweeters are properly aligned? After all, stands only come in a few sizes. Do you use height-adjustable chairs?
I have to raise my Silverline monitors high enough to ensure the woofers clear obstructing furniture and in so doing, the tweeters end up about 4 inches higher than ear-level, when seated, which has a negative sonic effect. Rising up out of my chair a few inches, the sound is much better. My wife has volunteered to make me a tall seat cushion to compensate but this makes me wonder how others approach this.
+1 @tomic601 . I had some studio monitors that I wanted to use in my living room. I sat on the couch and measured from my ear to the floor. Then I subtracted for the slight degree of offset I wanted and BAMM ! I ordered a pair of 3 leg Sound Anchors that are 26” high. Since I was that involved I had them set for the exact footprint dimensions of the box cabinets. My only regret was using the blue pads provided as they damaged the finish. Today I’d use an isolation footer and ditch the spikes for a seismic isolation footer. On the cheap many of the stands that ship flat can be cut down at home for the proper height.
