Streaming Is To Audio What Red Plastic Cups Are To Wine

Hummmmmmmmmmm.

I do love the tactile, mechanical feel of vinyl and my 50 year old LP's can still sound amazingly good.

Having said that, I traveled to see my son and help him set up his system.  His only source at that time was a streamer with a low res source.  Maybe his "plastic cup" was greatly enhanced by watching the performance on his TV.......but it was hugely enjoyable despite my low expectations.

Not sure that cup holds water.

No matter how good the digital side of things sounds, vinyl will always have that "it" factor.

Not to mention that changing the cartridge alters the sound of the LP.

I love both.  Vinyl for the tactile experience, not to mention the expense of buying and storing records, cleaning machines, etc. and the lack of convenience.  And yet, when I stream music, even thought it often sounds better, and I never have to get off my couch, I don't find myself listening the way I do to vinyl. I find vinyl more involving and I'm much less likely to skip around from song to song. So maybe there is something to your theory about digital being "disposable". 

Look at  my beautiful cds and sacds dude...I can fondle them in a ritualistic fashion, enjoy the artwork, read the lyrics and slowly....very slowly....very very slowly....insert them into my beautiful looking SACD player, whilst i cherish the sound of its tray opening. Thereafter, i trace the outlines of the beautiful buttons on my sacd player, fondle it a li’l more, before i press the button.

mmmmmm, It feels like an amazing ritual.

I don’t have to swim around in my bathtub with the vinyl, keep swimmin...bubble bath it with some hiny.... Popping, crackling, fluttering away, baking, dewarping...wow....wow...wow...bow...wow...wow...saves me from all of that bumbling fing nonsense....

Vinyl plastic feels a lot like that lousy red plastic cup dude.
