Maybe Leaving SET for Solid State because I want bass

Looking for a recommendation of an amp to power a pair of 12 in 2 way bass reflex studio monitor with 96db sensitivity. My SET amp sounds lovely and pure but is bass shy. Looking for a sweet solid state amp with some slam. I've heard my setup with a pair of Herron Monos and a Pass Sit-3. Herron had the bass but was otherwise unsatisfying. Pass was a little lean. Budget is $3-5K on the used market. Even something on the lower cost end that would give me a taste of what I'm looking for as proof of concept would be great to start out with.

Thanks in advance!

To @dhcod I’m looking back over your original post. Something showing people running the Herron tube preamp with the Herron mono amps and the SIT3 you mentioned.  https://www.stereonet.com/forums/topic/524309-fs-stunning-combo-herron-vtsp-3a-preamp-and-firstwatt-sit-3/

Your original comment > "Herron had the bass but was otherwise unsatisfying. "

Preamp:

What preamplifier / line stage were you running with the Herron or SIT3 amps?

The amplifier/speaker interface can be difficult to optimize for a certain listening preference. Rather than start over, why not try adding line-level connected, self-powered subwoofers - at least two and up to four.  It seems your current set-up sounds good to you down to 50-60 Hz so try rolling in subs at around 60-80 Hz.  Bass frequencies below those frequencies are primarily non-directional (or omnidirectional).  The subs should make a noticable improvement in what you hear, without having to reconstruct what you have already achieved.

@pindac astute observations and worthy advice you are giving. But your sentence structure is what I am most curious about. Is it inspired by Shakespeare or Yoda :-)?

@bruce19 My use of words on the Gon, is commonly referenced.

Some state 'too wordy' (prolix), some state Gobbledygook' (pure nonsense), some state ' Stirring' (to encourage further thinking)

@pindac states ' keeps one happy ' ( Finds Joy ), places that are fun are usually top of the list to be revisited.

Push pull amps and higher power SETs usings 211 or 845s are a decent step towards more dynamics and slam without giving up much of what you like today. Just another rabbit hole to consider. Adding subs is also certainly worth a try. Cheers,
