$2000 Dac

I have kept my eyes on the Dac comparisons. What I'd like to know is what Dac can I buy new or used for under $2000? I am looking for examples that don't throw the voices so far in front. Yes, I like the detail. I am coming from a Luxman dac that was very good, but I just felt the voices were too close, often pianos felt the same. Sometimes almost feeling a little glare as well. So, I am searching for a detailed dac with a little more laid back mids for under 2 grand, new or used. thanks

Congrats and be interested in your thoughts once you get it settled in.

it is a pontus with remote passive volume control - about time they did this

should sound nice, as pontus’ do

@jjss49 If that is true, and I have never heard the Pontus so I don't know, it has the passive volume control and the sound at a cheaper price. It is NOS, so I guess if you want over sampling options, you get the Pontus.

you’re right, this one doesn’t do oversampling... which the pontus does

no doubt a decent value, very nice performance at the price point, as much as most systems would ever need

I’m listening to my Divinity with the passive volume control and I love it. I was using a Truth preamp and also a Topping preamp before but with the Divinity it sounds better in my system with its own volume control. It sounds more open and has better separation of instruments without a separate preamp, as of now. Maybe some day I’ll try another preamp but for now I’m really enjoying it as is. Just so musical and involving. It’s hard to stop listening.
