Stylus cleaners

I used to use Onzo ZeroDust with my first few cartridges years ago. With the last two cartridges, Hana ML, I have only been using the included Hana brush for every side of LP and the MoFi LP-9 liquid stylus cleaner (I get as much fluid out of the brush by pressing it against the neck of the bottle before I clean stylus) every 3-4 records.
Onzo is collecting dust especially since the Fremer’s The Tracking Angle article.

I’ve been looking at DS Audio ST-50 but at $80 I’m not sure it will do anything better than my current cleaning methods.

What’s your stylus cleaning routine?

Next time I have a spare 3 hours I will pop into IKEA then try to find my way out again ..

@richardbrand hopefully the new turntable lamp will light the way for you

I get so lost in ikea that by the time I wheel a piece of furniture from its storage location to the cash register it’s already disintegrated and needs to be replaced.

Just use Lyra or LAST, both are supposed to be more than adequate, cost almost nothing. Zero points for discussion.

Like in Germany, there are 2000 kinds of hotdogs. Who needs all that ? Germans, I guess, maybe.

For many years a chewed end of a Vesta, to the point it was fine fibres proved an excellent Gem Cleaner for Jewel producers.

Jewellers Putty is the go today and has proved to be very useful on a Stylus.

I have a question to the individuals who do not know the accuracy of the alignment for the Stylus mounted on the Cantilever.

Does obsessing about and undertaking Stylus cleaning improve the End Sound that results from a Stylus with Azimuth, Zenith or SRA alignment issues, caused through the mounting of the Stylus to the Cantilever?] [is

Does the cleaning of the Stylus limit the cleaning

value to assisting with removing irritating noise as a result of contaminants on the Stylus?

@richardbrand

"Good tip on the clip-on desk lamp.  Looks as if it might be a NÄVLINGE from IKEA?  It should double as a strobe light, too?"

The one I have has a ballast, so doesn’t strobe. Interestingly, the ceiling fixture I rely on as the reference has LED bulbs in it that when I replaced the incandescents as they blew out do strobe.

"Next time I have a spare 3 hours I will pop into IKEA then try to find my way out again ..."

You can order the lamp online.

@pindac

Answer to your question, no amount of stylus cleaning can correct alignment errors that are baked into the stylus–cantilever relationship. Cleaning helps, but it helps in a very specific way.

In short, Alignment determines (allows) what that truth is. A clean stylus lets you hear the truth.
