Viridian, I don’t doubt what you say as regards liking a 1:18 SUT more than a 1:10 SUT, but there are many other possible reasons for the sonic differences besides the fact that the respective turns ratios result in a difference in cartridge loading. For one thing, when you use a higher turns ratio, that affects the capacitance (due to the cable between the SUT and the phono stage plus the input C of the phono stage) seen by the cartridge by a factor equal to the square of the turns ratio, so maybe somehow the big increase in capacitance with the 1:18 SUT works in your favor in your system. Or maybe it is only that your 1:18 SUT is superior in other ways to your 1:10 SUT. In fact, the difference in the load on the cartridge between the two would be way down my list of explanations, but maybe you have data not mentioned.
