Elac’s Alchemy acquisistion, the $1700 DPA-2, is a contender. This is an older model, so two used units might be within your budget. 210/325 wpc into 4/8 ohms, but when bridged, that rises to a nominal 625/420 wpc.
I used a pair of them for years until I was able to afford a T+A upgrade. The T+A was a huge step up -- but it cost a DOZEN times the price.
My ELACs generally mated well with my 86db-sensitivity Harbeths. But those speakers have a smooth high end, which worked well with the DPA-2’s moderate degree of Class D edginess. Given the DPA-2’s proprietary NCore-based implementation, the problem is maybe a 3 or 4 out of 10 compared to other Class Ds in the price range. Unfortunately, that was still enough to exaggerate the ugly sibilance distortion produced by the tonearm I was using at the time. The problem was not nearly as noticeable with other sources. And to put things into perspective, I still use my units to power surround and center channels of a home theater.
The ELACs are admittedly "entry-level audiophile", but at the price, it’s hard to beat their overall combination of power and SQ. Reviews in the TAS/Stereophile.press are IMHO, a bit too enthusiastic, but overall worth considering.
