Roon Trial

Hello friends -

I am fortunate to have a two month Roon trial subscription.  I have Whafdale Super Linton speakers, a Cambridge EXA100 amp, Cambridge DacMagic 200, Eversolo T8, and my Roon server is set up via internet on an unused MAC computer.

What could you recommend I change - assume $1,000- $,5,000 if I had to spend money - and if $2K really, really moved the needle please let me know.

Thank you!

Hi , I have a Project Streambox Ultra II feeding a DacMagic200m to a pair of Audeze LCD-2’s on my nightstand. I’ve compared the DacMagic to both my Schiit Bifrost and Yiggy. At your price point I’d consider the Schiit Gungir 2 DAC. Also experiment with type and brand of cables. Happy Hunting , Mike B.

>> Would you have an opinion as to which room correction to run either the  Eversolo or Roon?  I’m assuming you only run one, not both?<<

I have not used Eversolo, so can’t comment on it. One advantage of Room is that is runs on some kind of computer processor, and they are often more powerful than those in audio components. I have found the Roon DSP among the best I’ve tried as far as flexibility and transparency. It will take measurement to decide what to do, either manually by just reducing the worst bass peaks (and perhaps then shelving up the bass slightly) or automatically using REW.

It is not a 5-minute endeavor, I’m afraid. In my experience, it has been an iterative task to arrive at a sound I like (and I have been using DSP for this for > 20 years).

I ran a Roon Nucleus into a Bryston DAC-3 for several years and was very happy with it.  When they came out with the Nucleus Titan I jumped on that deal (like $2k off).  I'm sure there's better but I always like with OEM... hey they designed it.

Works flawlessly.

For the Roon core, another great option is the Sonore Sonicorbiter I5 or I7.  Reasonably priced, and great performance.
