Striking a balance between musicality and resolution
@kirkwallace +1 I never have understood how any intelligent person (and there are plenty on this forum) could possibly think that listening to another's audio system via a recording no matter how well recorded could lead to a conclusion. The spe...
There's no science behind belief
@erik_squires  +1 "I would rather be the person who cannot hear a $30,000 isolation platform under my DAC than the person who can." Couldn't agree more.  My side of an argument with millercarbon is why in the world would you even try to hear the...
Do you play the same records over and over again?
Seems as though I always have some music playing in my head, fragments of songs.  So that's usually where I start and then it can get pretty far afield after that. Yesterday started with Sheryl Crow because the lyric "I enjoy a good beer buzz in ...
Vibration Isolation for equipment using granite?
Back in the day when I had a TT...30 yrs ago! Yipes! The room I had to work with was NG.  Second floor apt in a house.  I could easily overpower the room with bass and cause the TT to skip.  So, I got the brilliant idea to get some marble headsto...
which audiophile fuse for the audiolab 6000 cdt ????
@deluxe  Here ya go: Breakdown of the Fuse Code: T = Time-delay (slow blow) This means it's designed to tolerate temporary current surges (like those at power-on), and only blow if the overcurrent persists. 1A = Rated curr...

Hey @bigkidz  As I'm sure you know Michael Fremer doesn't live far from you (or myself for that matter).  He may  put you in contact with someone who can give you a leg up. And possibly have a listen to your gear. I am not a Fremer fan, but you...
AI and how you use it.
@erik_squires  " ChatGPT will let you ask a hypothetical and then remembers it as fact." ChatGPT only remembers the conversation (exchange) as long as the conversation continues (ie. logoff kills it).  It  gave me a screwy answer the other day an...
Debate: Class D amps need 48 hours of warmup
I do not leave my four Pass Labs amps on all the time due to the high bias they are always in class A.  Although I expect the input stage is still idling and the heat sinks are cold. When turned on the heat sinks start "tinking" and when they are...
Help! Advice and Recommendations please (system sounds bad)
Just like the old Stoic philosophical thought  "No man can step in the same river twice".  Either the river or the man or both have changed.  Such is your dilemma. And as the "ragin' cajin' said "It's the economy stupid!". Not calling anyone stu...
Tube + SS bi-amping B&W 803 D3s?
@andrewmland  I have to agree that mixing amps is not a good idea, its a nice idea and kind of tantalizing to fantasize about. If your dead set on this approach then I would at least stay with Mac equipment. Better chances of getting them to mat...
God, I hate to ask this…
You seem upbeat and thinking clearly about your situation, it is hard to read and my best wishes to you.  Although morbid the Swiss practice the "Swedish Death Cleaning" starting around 65 years old.  I have begun this process while I still can m...
Does anyone own a tri amped system in Florida I could hear?
@tlcocks  If you find your self in the NYC metro area it could be possible to set something up. @ghdprentice  "Unless you have and infinite budget. Each additional piece of equipment reduces the overall investment level of each amp, interconnec...
Does anyone own a tri amped system in Florida I could hear?
My system is tri-amped and I wouldn't have it any other way.  It is a worthy pursuit.  I use four Pass Labs amps, 2 X260.8 mono-bloc amps for the woofers, and one each XA30.8 for the mids and the tweets.  The amps never get out of class A no matte...
You are there vs. They are there
Seems like a lot of gobbledee gook to explain "depth of field".  +1 @spenav  Regards, barts
They should charge more for it…
@ghdprentice  Thank you for the good laugh of the day! "If I had the means, I am sure my system would cost... well commiserate with my wealth." 1. "To feel sorrow, pain, or regret for"... Yes I'm sure your wealth would have a bad day. I know y...
