Stereophile - Sabrina 5

Hate to rag on Sterophile again, but one of two things are true.  One, the Sabrina speakers they reviewed were wired incorrectly or Wilson is now shipping with inverted midranges.

All that work to reduce distortion to vanishing levels only to totally ahem, add custom flavor to the frequency response.

Honestly if I was reviewing this speaker I'd have stopped to reach out to them before publishing, just to be sure this speaker shipped as intended.

@gournard

This @erik_squires sprouts, regurgitates and flaunts himself across as the authority on loudspeaker design.

Ad hominem attack without actual proof.  Where have I claimed to be a unique authority, or failed to accept a mistake in engineering?  Also, it's not "This Erik Squires" it's "THE Erik Squires."

I have both those books which I can sell to you, but perhaps you should Start with David B Weems'   Designing, Building, and Testing Your Own Speaker System with Projects if I can find it. First publication was about 1980. It's very useful, Erik.

Now who is trying really hard to sell themselves as an authority?  "I have books so I know stuff" is one step removed from ChatGPT.

Depending on XO design particularly when using 2nd order XOs (12dB/oct Erik) and the physical spacing between the acoustic centers, the designer will invert phase electrically to be in phase acoustically, Erik. As has been mentioned in earlier posts here.

If I said anything otherwise I'd have been mistaken.  I thought I made it clear that the mids appear to be misaligned, not in the wrong absolute polarity.  Maybe you read too fast.

By the way, I don't care if anyone actually likes these speakers or buys them.  Rather, that failing to fully integrate or equalize the drivers, while letting the impedance drop as low as it has are bold engineering choices.

Criticizing someone's product like you did is very bad form, Erik.

Your dehumanizing, factually incorrect puffery and condescending tone has really taught me a lesson in civility, @gournard , I'll be sure not to take your post as an example of how to maintain a civil dialogue, and probably won't take your advice on how to discuss golden cows either.  Instead I'll attempt to be civil and constructive as often as I can even when I disagree with other posters though I know I fall short of my own standards.

Best,

THE Erik  Squires

I don’t consider Wilson’s bright whatsoever. The older models yes the tweeter was hot but definitely not the new models. Does anyone have a comparison of the original Sabrina midrange/tweeter performance versus the Sabrina X? Just curious because I have the original.  From my understanding the original is warmer overall.

BTW, the original post by Erik was specifically, only the measurement section of the review, just to be clear. Enjoy!

I think it was mdalton who said the post by erik "contained a link" to the measurements. It "was the measurements only" section that Erik posted, not the entire review. Thought it would clear this up a bit.
