Stereophile - Sabrina 5

Hate to rag on Sterophile again, but one of two things are true.  One, the Sabrina speakers they reviewed were wired incorrectly or Wilson is now shipping with inverted midranges.

All that work to reduce distortion to vanishing levels only to totally ahem, add custom flavor to the frequency response.

Honestly if I was reviewing this speaker I'd have stopped to reach out to them before publishing, just to be sure this speaker shipped as intended.

Lousy response, awful load, carried by front end electronics....

no aptitude on display to develop/fab in-house drivers from scratch for the price being charged (just do a easy peasy buy them from peerless, scanspeak, whatever and throw em in a x, y, z bullsht material box....all credit for low distortion goes to peerless and scanspeak, not wilson)...

So undeserving....

Price should be dropped from $28,000 to $2800.

(Booobbb the builder, can he fix it?)

Hi Eric, I generally appreciate your thought provoking threads, but I read the link twice and am confused. I'm guessing that mention of a mid being wired incorrectly was earlier in the review but that JA added results of the previous gen Sabrina for comparison and they're quite similar speaks for itself no?

Did I misinterpret?

Perhaps the Wilson detractors should start their own speaker business to show decades old top performing and widely loved speaker manufacturers such as Wilson, how it’s supposed to be done. Good luck with funding!

“In many ways, the work of a critic is easy. We risk very little, yet enjoy a position over those who offer up their work and their selves to our judgement. We thrive on negative criticism, which is fun to write and to read. But the bitter truth we critics must face is that, in the grand scheme of things, the average piece of junk is probably more meaningful than our criticism designating it so.”

Brands that make their own drivers from scratch (costs a lot more to execute, price gets more justified).

Magico, B&W, TAD,Yamaha, Focal, Rockport, YG, mbl, KEF, Vivid, etc......lots of them out there who deserve your ’high end cash’ a bit more....instead of buying cheap drivers from whoosit and throwing them in a box.
