Is this the right forum for me?

Hello!

I just recently joined, searching for discussion on music and equipment.  Bought my first set of "high end" gear in 1972, a Marantz 2270 receiver.  Only recently sold it as I wasn't using it and it was just sitting on a shelf.

Had gone to Luxman equipment in the early 90's, and basically stuck with it until 2019, when I decided to get a new system.

I listened to a lot of gear at a local fine audio shop and decided on a modest set of equipment that fit my needs.  A fairly simple system, just a Naim Uniti Star which is an all-in-one CD player, streamer and integrated amp.  For speakers a set of Goldenear Reference.  I later added a Goldenear "Super Sub" to bring out the lows a bit better.  I added high end connection and power cables and a power conditioner.

The sound from this system is many steps up from what I had, but I realize it is not what some of you have after reading some of the posts.

My question is, am I worthy of being called an "Audiofile"?  I just turned 70 and I listen to music all the time, way more than TV or other media.  My hearing is not the best and I wear hearing aids, so my level of music enjoyment is somewhat compromised.

I do enjoy the discussions and reviews of high end equipment, just not sure I "fit in".  Thanks for your comments in advance!

Tom

This is a great place for info @bipestuff ..search feature very useful.

And sage advice from smart alecks, saints and the odd troll (It's the internet after all).

Find it amazing that there are 34 posts and not a single response from the OP.

As an old fart with hearing deficiencies myself, there is a delicate balance between wasting money for better sound that you can't hear, but shaking the cage anyway!  That is what makes this a fun place to be

Thanks to all for the responses and support.  Looking forward to the shared knowledge and opinions.  Music is a big part of my life and I’d be lost without it.  I probably will read way more posts than posting myself, but I'll share where appropriate.  One of the things I have enjoyed the most so far is all of the sharing of music choices.  I am always looking for new (or old) music to add to my collection.  I still buy CDs but have them all on a NAS so I can easily select my listening pleasure.

Thanks again,

Tom

@bipestuff - Hi Tom - I'm glad you put up that thread about Jethro Tull in the 'Music' section. Discussions like that are more than welcome!
