That statement met the pre-requisite...
Sometimes a single box can execute better than 30 different boxes strung together with cables to play a li'l song. If you have some degraded hearing, it is probably not worthwhile getting nitpicky with dacs and cables and what not...
A pair of subs is not just for bringing out the low end a bit better. It's a very effective active room treatment devices.
Sounds like you are on the right track.

I listened to a lot of gear at a local fine audio shop and decided on a modest set of equipment that fit my needs. A fairly simple system, just a Naim Uniti Star which is an all-in-one CD player, streamer and integrated amp. For speakers a set of Goldenear Reference. I later added a Goldenear "Super Sub" to bring out the lows a bit better. I added high end connection and power cables and a power conditioner.
The sound from this system is many steps up from what I had, but I realize it is not what some of you have after reading some of the posts.
My question is, am I worthy of being called an "Audiofile"? I just turned 70 and I listen to music all the time, way more than TV or other media. My hearing is not the best and I wear hearing aids, so my level of music enjoyment is somewhat compromised.
I do enjoy the discussions and reviews of high end equipment, just not sure I "fit in". Thanks for your comments in advance!
