Heavy cart on Technics GR

I’ve had this issue since I bought the cart but now I’m determined to get it set right.

I’m running a Phasemation PP-500 on Phasemation’s top end shell on a Technics SL1200GR (early version).

when I go to level the arm, even with the heavy aux weight it still doesn’t float. The cart end seems too heavy for the counter and aux weight to float the arm. So I set them all the way back to be as close I can guess to be, but then when I zero the knob and then the knob and weight to 2 grams it’s o my .25 grams according to my scale.

I'm told these carts have been used by Technics at shows so clearly im not doing something right. Sounds good to me but I want to make sure im not mashing the cantilever and suspension.

@hoytis  Google says 10-16 grams but my headshelll and cart weight 25. I just discovered KAB sells brass rings to add weight so looks like I should have searched first. It didnt occur to me anyone would make their own aux weights but KAB did.

If you are unable to float the arm then just use your scale to set the required VTF for the PP-500 and ignore the numbers on the counterweight wheel.  The actual VTF on the scale is the only thing actually important.  The counterweight wheel (float and set to zero) is for those without access to a VTF scale and is never quite as accurate as the actual scale weighing the actual stylus downforce.

Thanks @drrsutliff  that’s what I have been doing and hoping for the best haha.

incredible cartridges they make. My hope is to go to the PP-1000 next year. Or maybe a more complimentary arm
