FedEx shipping damage

I recently sold my KEF R11’s shipped in original boxes & packaging to UT. Somewhere along the way they sustained significant damage arriving at the buyers home with significant damage to the boxes resulting in several corners of speakers being badly dented, although they seem to work (amazingly).
I over insured (double sell) in case one was lost or damaged as the pair would then be useless… never thought it could happen to both.

I submitted a FedEx claim, with damage pictures & other supporting information & consider the speakers totaled. 7-14 days for FedEx resolution.

I have never experienced this issue, so I am asking for any ‘got ya’, anything to watch out for, or any other recommendations to bring this to a favorable solution. Thank you.

Ime, if the shipping company can find an excuse to claim "inadequate packaging", they will do so.

@toro3 gave great advice on how to avoid that.

If they deny the claim and you have reason to believe they are wrong, document your reasons and fight it.  I once wrote an 18-page illustrated booklet to show why UPS's claim of  "inadequate packaging" was wrong, and it took a while but eventually they honored my damage claim.

The last claim I filed with FedEx took me 8 months and nearly 900 Brazzilion phone calls/ emails stating the same things over and over, submitting the same pictures and emails over and over.  It was hellish.

Their systems are designed to make you give up and go away so they don't have to pay.  Just be prepared to have your claim denied multiple times but keep at it and eventually you'll get through it.

Given how the boxes looked (like they fell off a moving truck) I thought this was a slam dunk. Original packaging, but KEF packaging is excellent, heavy weight cardboard, very heavy duty full length corner braces, held by high quality foam at both ends. But your feedback is making me nervous.

Good thing it is only money. I didn’t want that new DAC anyway 😒

um, wow, a topic close to my heart as i've been screwed over by both fedex and ups a few times in this audio endeavor.... i agree with duke etc that it takes numerous and repeated responses to their absurd defenses and even then u probably won't succeed in being reimbursed for your loss...at least i never have succeeded even after numerous times b4 i gave up...won't bother to relate the details but suffice to say that they were in the wrong every single time and would not pay out.....simply stated, if you use ups/fedex without manufacturer's packing that insures a good chance of safe shipping, or at least custom packaging as good if not better, then never expect them to payout if there is damage, unless, as others have related here, you are willing to stay the course and keep fighting them over and over when they reject your claim...they will continually reject your claim regardless of any facts and any overwhelming evidence of how they obviously damaged your shipment....unfortunately, the sad fact of this matter is that they could care less about you or your shipment...while one would think that a business would care about their costumers' experience they could actually care less...why?...well when a business has more customers than they need or can handle, it doesn't matter how they are treated,.it is only lip service to whatever they tell you...they have so many packages to handle and ship that if you don't want to use them for whatever reason they don't care at all...even large commercial accounts have no leverage as it will never affect their bottom line profit..i know this as a tech support rep for a major audio manufacturer that did 6 figure per year business with both, and they were both as uncaring.....and unfortunately that is what business is about....so if you are absolutely right and they know it, doesn't matter, they will never pay out, unless you keep trying and trying and while some here have shown, you may prevail, or not.... most of us just get screwed.....my experiences by the way are many and varied over many years and sadly, numerous lost dollars experienced....i will never ever again call anyone from ups and fedex about anything at all as your situation means absolutely nothing to them...try and find your local ups supervisor when your local driver leaves your 4k speaker at your neighbor that would keep it in a heartbeat without telling you...and even after you've told them to never leave another package at that address.....wish i could say different...but this is the state of these types of things in the us of a today....money talks, b***^^it walks...as the saying goes...so never expect ups or fedex to ever pay out a claim, no matter how right you may be

Don't give up hope!

Just stick to your guns if initially denied. Gather your facts, back them up with pictures. Let them know you're not going away. You will prevail!
