New to this hobby please help me

Hi all i’m unsure on what speakers to get i have a marantz sr5011 my budget is 4,000 for floor standing speakers.  I found a local deal on some golden ear technology t66 the red ones for$3800.  But how do i pick without the ability to listen to other brands kef sonus faber etc!!   Is golden ear even good what suggestions do you have on hearing lots of brands under one roof.  My listening is 50 percent music 50 percent movies.

wizzard

Lest you think I am some sort of elitist, I am not. I look for deals on good to great equipment.
I bought my ref 3’s (currently $16K retail), used for $5,000. Motivated seller, local pickup, no boxes or grills, but otherwise perfect. Less than I paid for new R11’s. The R11’s are very good, Ref 3’s great IMHO. Sold the R11’s for $2,500 to a very lucky buyer. My BHK pre 1/2 price, same with my Moon amp. There are great deals out there.
As far as chatGPT is concerned, a great resource when combined with your own research & input from forums such as this.

The new Chesky LC2 would be a great foundation to build on. Their demonstrated sound quality at CAF was off the charts for the $$.

to some degree the definition of a stereo shop is what could be termed knife edge lazy setup. In fairness to the good people at Stereo Unlimited… going to be difficult to find a more extensive set of display inventory…

no matter where you buy develop a relationship….

If you’re considering the T66’s you’ll need to avail yourself regarding the effects of extremely low impedances (well below 3 ohms) in relation to your amplifier.

There’s no free lunch when it comes to system compatibility in this hobby. The preamplifier and powered ATC speaker suggestion maybe your best path to the professional level of fidelity you’ve yet to experience for yourself auditioning home theater speaker systems.

In the Link, there is info about the Clone Amp, but the info supplied by @whitstix is is well worth taking on board, especially when the Amp's owned and their pedigrees are considered.

If a stereo amp was to be considered, this is a worthwhile knowledge to receive.
