Accuphase amplifier choice

Hello All,

I have decided to upgrade my Parasound A21 amplifier looking for a more refined sound. The following are the amplifiers that I have in my mind:

Accuphase A-48s
Accuphase P-4600
Coda No. 8 (meterless)
Coda 16.0 (meterless)

Currently I am leaning largely to Accuphase. My dealer says that the Class A 48s will sound better with my ProAc D48R. But I am worried that I will lose dynamics since the Accuphase is only 50W into 8 Ohms. But it doubles all the way into 1 ohm.

The P-4600 is a higher wattage amp and I think it should be able to drive the D48R with ease because it doubles down to 2 ohm load. So I am not concerned with it's ability to drive the ProAcs.

I do have some feedback on the P-4600 from another thread here and appreciate it. But now looking for some comparisons.

Has anyone compared/experienced the Accuphase Vs Coda amplifiers? Any feedback is appreciated.

Interesting recurring theme appears that once you go Accuphase there is no going back but just up the line; exception being the one post where change was made to Soullnote, another prestigious Japanese SS brand along with Technical Brain.

I personally was able to acquire a pair of M200s some years back looking to mate with an FMAcoustics pre. and reluctantly passed on its partnering 3800 pre which I somewhat regret to this day as the pairing was most likely optimal.

Congrats & enjoy !

@toronto416 Thank You!

Folks, it is just as they say - curiosity killed the cat.
I found a video of ProAc K10 being driven by Accuphase E800 during the Bristol 2023 Hifi here.And the songs they are playing is my type of genre (Dire Straits is my all time favorite). The E800 has the same exact spec like the A48S, except for the the 1 ohm figures where the A-48S outputs 100W higher than the E800.

So if that integrated can drive the K10, that power amp should be easily able to drive my D48R. I am pulling my hair out now!

Just go with the best option you can afford. You don’t want to be sitting in your chair listening and wondering if you could have done better.

@audphile1 , both are in the range and hence pulling the hair.

Not to be anal about it, but I was also checking the cost of electricity to run the amps based on their power specs

A48S:
Idle = 200W
In accordance with IEC62368-1 = 220 W
Stand-by = 0.3W

P-4600
Idle = 94W
In accordance with IEC62368-1 = 250 W
Stand-by = 0.3W

I told AI to calculate the monthly costs based on daily usage of 0.75hr of idle time and 3 hours playing time and here is what it came back with:

Amplifier Monthly Cost
A-48S (200W all the time) $3.60/month
P-4600 (94W idle, 250W playing) $3.94/month

@westcoastaudiophile , do you see this similar difference? How much heat is generated in summer?

@milpai

The E-800 is a seriously capable integrated—no doubt about it. I actually considered making the jump myself, but ultimately it felt like it would be more of an interim step. For the long run, moving up to an A-48S paired with either the C-2300 or C-2900 just makes more sense. That combo feels like a true destination, not a detour.

I also sent you a PM.
