I have had the opportunity to spend time with Parasound A21, Primaluna Evo400 and Coda # 8, owned them all at the same time. Dealer let me trial Krell gear. Going from the A21 to the Coda was a noticeable step up, the Coda just did everything better, A21 is a great Amp but if I had those 2 amps, the Coda would never leave the rack. Now, if we are talking solid state class A, I haven’t had any amp in my set up that delivers like the Krell. It has a damping factor that puts an iron grip on controlling the speakers, enough head room for just about any speaker and is Class A but biased in a way where it isn’t a toaster oven. The blend, mix of control with a warmth, almost tubelike sound is to me magical. I would guess the coda 16 would be potentially a step up from my Krell 300xd. If you are stuck on Accuphase which I’m sure is an unbelievable amp, I’d buy the beefiest class A Accuphase you can. The Coda 16 can drive anything and will deliver more than enough Class A. If you get the chance, check out the Krell XD amps, sounds like it would deliver exactly what you are looking for.
Accuphase amplifier choice
Hello All,
I have decided to upgrade my Parasound A21 amplifier looking for a more refined sound. The following are the amplifiers that I have in my mind:
Accuphase A-48s
Accuphase P-4600
Coda No. 8 (meterless)
Coda 16.0 (meterless)
Currently I am leaning largely to Accuphase. My dealer says that the Class A 48s will sound better with my ProAc D48R. But I am worried that I will lose dynamics since the Accuphase is only 50W into 8 Ohms. But it doubles all the way into 1 ohm.
The P-4600 is a higher wattage amp and I think it should be able to drive the D48R with ease because it doubles down to 2 ohm load. So I am not concerned with it's ability to drive the ProAcs.
I do have some feedback on the P-4600 from another thread here and appreciate it. But now looking for some comparisons.
Has anyone compared/experienced the Accuphase Vs Coda amplifiers? Any feedback is appreciated.

Accuphase is especially renowned for their class A amps, and their current offerings include the A-48s, A-80 and the A-300 monoblocks. They all double down to 1 ohm and have high damping factors. I don't think that they suffer from any lack of headroom. I have owned the A-48 and the A-300, which I can attest are both hugely capable and very musical, but have not heard the A-80. |
It was an E 4000 which I almost bought after a good purchased a E 5000 but It sounded like the midrange region was a little exaggerated and not as refined as the Soulnote A2. Another good friend who was very familiar with Accuphase, Luxman and Soulnote sent me a youtube tube link comparing A2 against E 4000 and you can definitely hear the differences in the midrange with the A2 sounding more real and natural. These are wonderful electronics and you would be happy with the lot of choices. Video is timestamp and can toggle back and forth. https://youtu.be/Q1fa2lSYxqE?si=oT15P03Nhn5wmPXc Wig |
