What’s playing on your turntable…. Does anyone care?

When l was in a previous discussion l questioned the value myself if l would want to tell anyone what l was listening to. I have always wondered why do some posters feel compelled on a regular basis to tell others what’s playing on their turntable?

What makes someone want to do that? Personally l fail to see the point. So l have posted this question to others to test if there’s any curiosity value in it. What would an analyst make if it all. Is it a form of attention seeking?

The almost complete absence of

1. Record Stores

2. Audio retail brick and mortar

3. Informed, curated radio stations

Leads to this website and the many threads devoted to sharing musical favorites that henceforth were part and parcel of the three above listed repositories of musical discovery.

@jpwarren58 The old ways……. In the absence of….

Total agreement from me.

l fear the demise of all physical music media is upon us. The shape of things to come in a new fickle world. Music predominantly from a phone, tablet, streamer and the Amazon Alexa Echo Dot followers.

@mylogic  - I care! And I share.

I'm a participant in that thread. I receive joy from it, knowing some of my internet acquaintances are also enjoying their vinyl playback systems. I often see a post regarding a record I've never heard, a new audiophile version of an old favorite, or just some forgotten favorite.

I posted last night, and tonight, some records that suited my mood at the time. I find them interesting. Personally I like just dropping them on the thread to see if I get any comments. I'm fine either way, but it's fun when someone comments on my selections.

Here's my challenge to you. Post to "what's on your turntable tonight" and see what happens.

I don't like those threads because they get too long and a cluster F of genres get mixed together...waste of time.

When threads are split by genre, It is more worthwhile to me.

@reubent “- I care! And l share” “Post to What’s Playing on Your Turntable tonight”

A very interesting proposition…..

I had thought this thread (after appearing in the number one spot the day after it was posted) had died a natural death a day later, when it dropped completely off.

I thought that one fact proved that in reality after a short life, no one really cared. The question raised had no real value and indicated perhaps that most posted artists on “What’s playing on your turntable.” may also not get any responses either.

l also did some research on those that have posted the “artists playing on their turntables”  There are many that post nearly every single day, and in some instances twenty or more entries in ONE DAY. That last fact indicates an obsession and another discussion.

Your challenge set for me l will accept.  A thank you for suggesting this very interesting perspective. I will do as you say and see what happens. You may well have resurrected this discussion if others who have never done this do the same. Report back what happens.
