Jack DeJohnette R.I.P.

Name your favorite Jack De Johnette recording.

What a monster of a player!

Every time I read some music magazine's list of "best drummers", I have to laugh at the usual, cliche choices, when guys like DeJohnette exist, or have existed,

I just saw this on Presto which prompted me here. I really liked him with New Directions. Also, the album 'Inside Out' with K Jarret and G Peacock.

One of my favorites.  He didn't think of himself as a drummer, but as a musician and that shows in his drumming.

Very sad.  As a drummer I like Keith Jarrett At the Blue Note - The Complete Recordings (it’s on Qobuz) for the music but also because it’s an excellent ECM recording where DeJohnette’s drums are recorded naturally and don’t pan all the way across the stage the way drums are often and unrealistically portrayed.  On songs like “Bop-Be (Live)” and “Now’s the Time” you get a real “the kit is in my room” kinda feel, especially with the solos toward the end of the songs, more than almost any other recording I can think of because DeJohnette’s drums are so realistically captured in their natural space.  Anyway, a huge loss for the music world for sure.
