Is buying a “used” subwoofer a bad idea?

I have 3 REL subs bought used (2 Q150es and a Q108 MK2) from years ago and all still work perfectly. I also bought a new Classic 99 last year on a whim (not sure what that means) which is an amazing thing, although it destroyed my bargain basement sub cred. It was a "demo" model so there's that.

The idea that only non audiophiles are addicted to cigarettes is the craziest statement l have ever read. Also the guy who thinks that only subs over 20 years  old will go pop is laughable. I would suspect any electrical item over 20 years old (and has habitually been sitting there “on” all the time) will statistically have a shortened life span left.

Thinking about the car owner analogy with audiophiles. If buying an expensive car from a collector, it can not be assumed the previous owners were good drivers and always treated the gear box/engine well.

You get som grumpy guy that goes to garage sales or fences stolen goods, the jig is up in seconds. Likely you can hear him puffing on a cigarette.

He made a general assertion about the quality of audiophile hobbyist sellers versus general crap pickers / flippers - one that many of us with decades buying & selling agree with - and added some "color" at the end. Personally, I appreciate this color - it's one of the distinguishing factors we have left against AI generated slop.

l was trying to inject some “colour” (Kings English) into the discussion, but it apparently missed the target.

l am so sorry if the “Logic” within my handle appears provocative to you. It was probably lost in translation across the pond. Two countries separated by a common language.

Just for clarity…. Because I would hate for this to colour the sound of my reply. “mylogic” was adopted after signing up in 2020 to answer a question about a DM-101 bearing.

The logic part refers to an English Logic DM-101 turntable l often use, nothing more.

P.S.  I do however totally agree with your AI slop opinion. I myself was criticised on another thread for calling into question the accuracy with AI reviews of hi-fi products. Good to talk!
