Stereophile review of the $30,000 tekton speakers

We have had many discussions/arguments over tekton speakers in the past, mainly involving a couple posters who thought their $4000 tektons sounded better than the highest price Wilson’s and other high budget speakers.

In the latest Stereophile magazine, they did a review of the $30,000 tekton’s. In this Steteophile issue, they rate these $30,000 tekton’s as class B. When you look at the other speakers that are in the class B section, you will notice most of these speakers range in price from $5000-$8000. So it looks like you have to spend $30,000 on a pair of tekton’s to equal a pair of $5000 Klipsch Forte IV’s sound quality.
If I compare these $30,000 class B tekton’s, to some of the class A speakers, there are some class A speakers for 1/2 the price (Dutch & Dutch 8C, Goldenear triton reference), or other class A speakers that are cheaper (Magico A5, Kef blade 2).

I didn't read all the replies, and this must be in there somewhere, but the Moabs with full Be upgrade, full X-over upgrade and grills come in at $18945. Where do they get $30,000?

FWIW, proud Moab with single Be tweeter upgrade owner.

I think he means that a great crossover is the one that does the least damage and causes the fewest problems. Each type has its pros and cons with first order often considered the best, but limiting in terms of driver flexibility.

@mapman you mention Ohm speakers and please bear in mind I am reporting only what my experience with them has been. Back in mid May of this year, I returned a pair of Ohm drivers for warranty repair to Ohm. I was told at the time it would be a couple of weeks to effect the repairs and then ship them back. While we are not quite into mid october yet, we are approaching it quickly...the two weeks that I was promised is approaching six months and I still do not have my replacement drivers. Further they are dodging phone calls and refusing to answer emails requesting updates on the situation. Regardless of what anyone else thinks, Ohm loudspeakers, in spite of the fact I like their sound signature, is dead to me. I will never ever buy another speaker from them cause they have lied to me repeatedly. All of that said brings me to this question? And not just for you specifically but for the whole forum, my question is this: If I were to buy a pair or even several pair of tektons for the refurnishing of my home and had trouble with them am I going to get that kind of treatment from Tekton as a vendor? IF so I want NOTHING to do with them or any other company that. does the kind of thing I experienced from Ohm. I had a similar experience with an Emotiva HT processor....and their customer service sucks so they are dead to me now too. I have about 4k tied up in the Ohms and lost 1800 on the Emotiva processor. So I am in the hole nearly 6k at this point. I want to purchase from someone who is gonna give a crap after the sale and take care of me and service the product as needed and do so cheerfully and quickly and not make my life miserable by fighting me over a legitimate problem. Now I have yet another question and maybe that should be answered directly by Eric A from Tekton....I would love an explanation of the differences between the standard finish and the upscale finishes on your speakers. The upscale finishes are quite a bit of extra money, what goes into the ’high priced spread’ that makes this a compelling option? Part of my feeling behind this question comes down to trying to understand what is missing in the standard finish, as that has received here some less than complimentary comments. Maybe for my use the standard finish would be quite acceptable but it is hard to judge that from an internet picture. Help me out here

I guess i am different, I will take a so called ugly speaker. If it is the best sound i can afford. Build quality  come right behind sound quality. It can be built like a tank, but if sound quality is not good then that will not work either. A speaker that sounds good and last a long time with heavy use (not abused) is what i look for or judge on. I have never seen or heard any of the Tekton speakers. People who buy them seem to love them.
